Average speed of monorail is 32 km per hour and top speed is 80 km per hour. System length is 19.54 km and electrification is 750 V DC Third rail.

3. First Monorail Service in India

Mumbai Monorail was the first monorail service in India and the operation was started on February 2, 2014.

4. No New Monorail Project in Mumbai

The Government of Maharashtra has decided to not implement any new phases or projects of Mumbai Monorail.

7. Monorail Project is Light Rapid Transport System

Mumbai is expected to have metro all over the city routes. However, Monorail and Metro works on different system. Metro is a mass rapid transit system (MRTS) and monorail is a light rapid transport system (LRTS).

8. Line 1 Inaugurated by CM of Maharashtra

Line 1 was inaugurated by Prithviraj Chavan, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on February 1, 2014 at the Wadala Depot Monorail Station.

9. First time monorail closed

The Mumbai Monorail was closed for the first time due to holi on March 17, 2014.

To provide more security, MMRDA places two CCTV cameras in each coach.

Monorail trains create less pollution compared to the Best Bus. A monorail train produces sound between 65-85 decibels and BEST bus produces 95 decibel noise level.
